Dawn returned to painting after 10 years as an award winning copywriter and a few more as a photographer. She grew up in Northern Ireland, where she studied at Rupert Stanley College of Art in Belfast before moving on to Newcastle upon Tyne to the School of Art and Design.
Inspired by a long trip home and a few local gallery visits, brushes were dusted off again in spring, 2009. Dawn's first love was always painting - like her father landscape artist Ashley Coulter, and her grandfather - who's style was 'pretty quirky'. "After wandering around the galleries and taking long walks on the Antrim Coast I wondered why I'd stopped doing something that had made me so happy. As soon as I got back to London I turned the spare room into a studio and haven't looked back."
Commissions - particularly portraits and seaside themes - have since been keeping Dawn busy. Her first exhibition after taking up the brushes again was at Trafalgar Studios in July 09 to accompany the production of 'Orwell- A Celebration' by Dominic Cavendish for which she was commissioned to produce portraits of George Orwell.
An ongoing exhibition is in Waterstone's Enfield for whom she designed a new range of greetings cards. She was also shortlisted for the Art and Escape Awards 2010, and featured in the 2010 Cross my Art Exhibition @210 Pentonville described as 'the largest most exciting private exhibition of contemporary art for London 2010.'
Original artwork and limited edition prints of many pieces are available by contacting the artist directly. Paintings have been sold to Belfast, Melbourne, London and throughout the UK. Commissions also happily accepted!
Dawn lives in North London with her husband, comedian Hal Cruttenden, and their daughters Martha and Grace.
